The editors
These are the tools the game is actually built with. Each one reads the game as it is now and writes back through the Builder, so a save here is a publish: the files in the repo are always written and committed, and two tick boxes say whether staging and live get the change as well.
Signed in as an author — the editors below will open.
You need to be signed in with an author's account to open these (the Sign in button in the header). Anyone can read the same content, without an account, under The Game World.
-
The world editor
Every Area and every portal between them — the map, an Area's size, kind, rules and where you arrive.
-
The area editor
One place at a time: the ground painted cell by cell, and the things standing on it. Opened from an Area's own page.
Pick a place under Areas, then “Paint the ground” or “Place things”.
-
The conversation editor
What a character says: the screenplay for one conversation, checked line by line as you write it.
-
The element card editor
The sixty-four elements — their names, colours, rarity, what they are for, and the ground each one makes.
What a publish reaches
The world, an Area's ground and the things on it go straight into the game's database, and the place you are standing in reopens on the new content within a few seconds. A conversation reaches a character the next time somebody starts talking to them. The element table is compiled into the game itself, so it needs a new build of the client to be seen.
