The Village before the real tiles — what the ground looked like on 18 August 2026

epic: ground-types delivered
Six pictures of the ground, before the painted tiles

The pictures are the deliverable — six of them, below. This is what Lor's ground looked like the day it first had types, drawn from placeholder tiles the engine generates from a colour and a pattern name. The real, painted tiles are being made now; when they land, this page is the "before".

Kris asked for this the day after ground-types shipped: keep some screenshots on the site of where the world was at this point, so that when the new tiles arrive people can see the progression. Every tile in these pictures is procedural — a base colour and a pattern name (speckle, streaks, dapple, cracks, pebbles, ripples, flowers, tiles, bricks, planks, checks) drawn at 32 pixels — standing in for art that doesn’t exist yet. The brief for the real art is land-of-lor/docs/design/briefs/GROUND_TILES_BRIEF.md.

The Village of Lor

Sprinkled grass in eight flavours, a river of Water winding through the middle (sunk a quarter cell, banks either side), and — bottom right — a stripe of flowered grass Kris painted in the area editor the same day to see that it worked. Two bodies stand at the river’s edge, one in the water.

The Badlands

Every ground type in patches, so it can all be looked at in one place: a stone courtyard around the doors, a stone road, a sand desert with two lone mountains, a snow field, a deep-water lake, a pond with a stream running out of it, a lava pool, and an eleven-by-nine mountain range with a peak core and a volcano at its centre.
