The Bazaar tent — a kind of room, drawn on both sides of its door
Kris, by voice, 23 October: “I think it would be kind of neat in the Village of Lor if it was like walking into a little tent, a little bazaar even… a 3D object that fits over the top of the portal… six grid cells and the front middle one would be empty and the portal sits in there… and when you go into the bazaar, the same kind of walls on the sides and on the back, so that you feel like you are inside of the tent.” And, on the front: “thin tent edges… at the widest edges of the cell beside the portal. Let me see that first and we’ll iterate.”
Round 1 was the two palettes above. Kris: “It looks really really good. Gee, that’s a hard call between the white and the yellow stripes… I think maybe I slightly prefer the white. That’s exactly what I was hoping for.” Cream it is.
Round 2 — how high the walls inside

Kris had asked for “considerably higher… maybe even three times”, then, seeing both: “double is the right call, not triple (too high).”
Final — the shaded floor

“The grass does look a little strange… maybe one of the other earth base ground hexagrams could be a much darker colour of grass and I could put that as the ground in there to give the sense of shadow and being inside.” Mountain over Earth (hexagram 23) is now Grass, shaded — the mountain’s shadow on the ground, never sprinkled by the random mix — and the Bazaar’s floor is all of it. The Market Stalls were renamed the Bazaar the same hour.
What is underneath, so the next one is just data
- A footprint can have a hole. A placed thing may leave cells of its block open; an open cell is not blocked and may be a door. The tent is three by two with the front middle open.
- An Area can name the room it is drawn inside. The world file says the Bazaar is inside a
bazaar-tent; the client draws that kind’s walls along its edges, the door’s side open; the world editor offers the choice. - One palette, two halves. The kind’s colours, stripes and heights live in one block; the stall outside and the room inside are built from it by the same code. Kris: “a little hut would have the same effect but the walls would be wooden” — one more row, with planks.
- Cost: three draw calls for the stall, three for the room, no textures, nothing per frame.
